This roof in California, KY, was installed improperly, which led to an accelerated pace of water damage. Specifically, the skylights in the roof were mismanaged, the framing was improper, the shingles had disconformities, and there were a couple suspects areas in the trimming & sealing. When the homeowner saw a leak in their ceiling of the home, they wanted us to provide a free estimate, and to tell them everything we thought was problematic with their current roof. After our Inspector explained how we would remedy their roofing system in a way that was understandable to the homeowner, the homeowner believed that we were the right ones for the job. After we replaced the roof and showed the homeowner these attached pictures of how we did it, the homeowner was more than happy to know their home has a roofing system that was carefully designed and installed. We started by stripping the existing roof down to the sheathing. Here we are ripping of all of the wood on this side of the roof and repairing some of the framing as well.

After we replaced the damaged sheathing, we then started taping all the seams as an extra precaution to make sure the roof won't leak, even if water does get past the underlayment we installed over the sheathing.

At the time when this picture was taken, we had replaced the decking on the far side and started on our underlayment installation. The existing shingles had yet to be removed on the closer side of the picture.

In this picture, you can see the two underlayments we used for this project. The white Ice & Water shield is adhered to the roof with its sticky backing. The glue that is infused into this underlayment helps seal the nails we use to install the shingles over it. For this reason, we installed the Ice & Water shield in all the most vulnerable areas for water build up on the roof. The tan underlayment is a synthetic felt, and will do just fine in all the other areas. All that was left to do is to install the rest of the shingles over the underlayments.

We used IKO Dynasty AR shingles in the Glacier colorway. These shingles are class 3 rated against wind and hail damage.
